Vision for Our Community

We live in a world that is torn and corrupted by sin and rebellion against God. But there is a day coming, when the knowledge of God will cover the earth as the waters cover the sea; when all things, in heaven and on earth will be reconciled to the Father; when the Father will put all things under the feet of the Son; when the dwelling place of God will be with man. In the scriptures, we see that day characterized by four things.

  • Unhindered fellowship between God and man
  • Restored relationships between men and women
  • Perfect justice and perfect mercy
  • A restored creation
Though only by God's direct intervention at the end of history will we see these realities fulfilled, The church is being built up by God as a visible expression of that day before it comes to us in fulness.

Bringing Truth to Light
In this light, we value the clear announcement and explanation of biblical truth, particularly how it relates to the message of Jesus Christ. We practice this in conversations, small groups in homes, singing, and, most significantly, the public teaching of the Scriptures. Through the Spirit's application of truth through these activities, we are able to know God's character more intimately and submit to his revealed desires for our lives. This also teaches us how to approach God in prayer, which through the Spirit allows us to fellowship with God, both privately and corporately.

Forging Redeeming Relationships
As we understand God and his will more clearly, we come to know that his desire is for us to relate to one another as humans in a way that models his love, both in himself as trinity and towards his created beings. Thus within the church, we strive to relate to one another with love and integrity. In our marriages, we also endeavor to show forth God's perfect relationship, and the mission of Christ by embracing our God-given roles, whether husband, wife, parent, child, or sibling. However, we do not limit these values to our relationships within the church or family, but also want to express God's intent for his creatures in our relationships with those who do not submit to his word. In this, may all people see that God's grace extends to them.

Modeling Gospel Living
We live in a society which values justice and mercy, however, it is clear that there are many who call wrong, right, and right, wrong. We know that these two were displayed most clearly in the cross of Jesus, where God punished rebellion fully, and yet embraced the undeserving. As a result, our church is given the responsibility to teach our people to model justice and mercy in all aspects of their lives, such as participation in the political process, supporting charitable works, and working towards communities that are characterized by both qualities.

Honoring Christ's Lordship
The rest of creation has not escaped the effects of sin. The world we see not only has been damaged physically by death, abuse, and corruption; but unseen powers have usurped the place of privilege and authority that God granted to humanity. These powers are the force behind the pride, desires, and beliefs of men. In the cross, Christ conquered the malevolent forces of Satan, however, in his death throes he still seeks to deceive and subjugate through ungodly desires and philosophies. We recognize Christ as true king of the universe, and so our church teaches men to be on guard against the deceptions of these forces. These may come in many forms, whether from film, music, art, books, talk shows, or even religious leaders. We do not isolate ourselves for fear of being deceived, but we can face such lies with confidence, as we cling to the truth. We also honor Christ's lordship by caring for the physical creation, knowing that soon he is coming to reclaim what is his.
