Q&A About Church Membership

Q&A About Church Membership

Question. Are there biblical reasons why you practice church membership?
A. When people became Christians in the days of the early church, they deliberately associated themselves with a church in their local area (Acts 2:47). Local churches practiced church membership to know who was part and who was not part of their church family (1 Corinthians 5:11, 13) so they could help their fellow Christians grow and walk faithfully with Christ (2 Corinthians 2:5; Hebrews 10:25-26).

Question. What are the benefits of church membership?
During Christ's teaching ministry, he emphasized the importance of believers associating with a local church (Matthew 18:15-20). Joining a church helps your pastors provide shepherding and care for your soul, for they must give an account to the Lord for their flock (Hebrews 13:17).

Also, joining a church means you will have believers committed to caring for you spiritually. And membership enables us to live out God's desire (Ephesians 4:11-16) for church families to grow together as a group to be more like Jesus.
